    • American Civil War caused Faulkner's family to become like many other Southern families at the time
      • Caused his family to move to Oxford, Mississippi which Faulkner later used as his setting in one of his works

    • Began to work at a bank and sparked an interest in writing
      • Styled poems after Edward FitzGerald, A. E. Housman, John Keats, and Algernon Swinburne and addressed them to Estelle Oldham*
      • *Married her in 1929
